Due: Friday, June 25
Write a very basic, one-page proposal memo recommending an improvement of any nature to your paper airplane from the Reverse Engineering Project.
In preparation for the Assignment Proposal & Presentation (be sure to examine this assignment sheet for further information / suggestions on proposal writing), you will compose a brief proposal that recommends a modification to the paper airplane you used in your Reverse Engineering Project. Your modification may pertain to aesthetics, functionality, structure, or any other aspect of the plane you find could be improved. Choose a single aspect to improve and write a brief proposal recommending this change.
Existing Plane
What problem do you find with the current airplane? The planes we used for our previous assignment have many imperfections, from aesthetics to flight design. Choose one aspect of the plane you feel could be improved in its design. You might decide the look of the plane is dull and unappealing; you might decide the shape of the wing does not lend itself well to long gliding; there are many options for recommended improvements. Once you have chosen a single aspect of the plane that could be improved, you must diplomatically recommend it be improved.
Plane Modification / Improvement
What solution do you propose that will improve the plane / alleviate the problem you discuss above? After you have pinpointed the problem you wish to fix with your plane, you must recommend a solution to this problem. You could recommend that a rainbow be printed on the plane to eliminate the boring white paper; you could recommend the wings be folded wider to create more lift for the plane's glide. Be sure that your recommendation alleviates the problem you pinpoint above.
Modification Benefits
How will users benefit from this modification? Once you have recommended your plane improvement, you will need to convince your audience (readers) that your recommendation will benefit them. If you are arguing that your plane have a rainbow printed on it, you must convince your audience that this modification improves the plane to their benefit. If you argue the wings be made wider, you must explain how the widened wings allow for longer gliding and why this longer flight would be desired by the user.
Consider how the information above relates to the major components of a proposal:
- Introduction
- Background or problem statement
- Product description
- Detailed solution
- Conclusion
Be sure to investigate how your information relates to proposal formats and how you can mold your proposed idea and information into this format.
